Henry C. Mitchem, 85 of Fruitland Park, FL passed away October 24, 2016. Born October 18, 1931, he was raised on a small farm in Loganville, GA.
Mr. Mitchem spent his early career selling farm equipment to farm equipment dealers around Florida and Georgia and in 1969, founded Henry Mitchem Equipment Company, Inc., a wholesale farm equipment distributor in Leesburg, FL. Henry Mitchem Equipment Company was a member of FEWA from 1975 through 2010. Mr. Mitchem served on the FEWA Board of Directors from 1984 through 1990, serving as President of the Association in 1989.
Mitchem enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping and fishing and was a pilot who loved to fly. He was a man of great faith and was a member of Eagles Nest Baptist Church in Fruitland Park.
A devoted and beloved husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by; wife of 66 years, Juanita of Fruitland Park; 3 sons: Kenny of Leesburg, Barry and wife Kenna of Belleview, FL and Philip and wife Angie of Cleveland, TN; 10 grandchildren: Michele Hunnewell, Ashley Mitchem, Jason Mitchem, Christy Adams, Lindsey Sirolli, Clinton “Buddy” Mitchem, Kasi Mitchem, Jimmy Mitchem, Jake Mitchem and Tyler Mitchem; 15 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild; and a sister Donnie Everett and husband Gene of Loganville, GA. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers: Gussie Lee and Clyde and a sister, Louise.
Visitation for Mr. Mitchem will be held on Friday October 28, 2016 at Eagle Nest Baptist Church in Fruitland Park, FL from 1-2 PM with a Funeral Service to follow at 2 PM with Pastor Aaron Hornsby officiating. Interment will follow the service at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Cornerstone Hospice or Eagles Nest Baptist Church.
